The BIG CHICKEN CHORUS (BCC) of the Marietta, GA Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society received its charter to operate on April 23, 1986. The chorus adopted its name after the well known 65 foot tall "Big Chicken" in Marietta, GA, at the crossroads of US Highway 41 and Roswell Road.

History

The Marietta, Georgia Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society strives to preserve and encourage barbershop singing in a professional and congenial atmosphere. Our purpose is to enrich the quality of life in our community, engage our audiences and provide musical challenge and reward to our singers.

The BCC has gained recognition from all corners of the Barbershop Harmony Society and from appreciative audiences at the Fabulous Fox Theater, the Atlantic Civic Center, the Georgia Fine Arts Center, Symphony Hall, the Georgia Dome, the Georgia Pacific “Art in the Heart” series, the Falany Performing Arts Center at Reinhardt College, and many other venues throughout Georgia and the southeast.

BCC history includes sixteen District Championship performances, as well as three International Medalist performances, in Barbershop Harmony Society competitions. These performances have taken the chorus around the US to locations including Miami, FL, Anaheim, CA, Portland, OR, Salt Lake City UT, and New Orleans, LA to name a few, as well as to Calgary, Alberta and Montreal, Ontario in Canada, and to Harrogate, England.

More recently the BCC has been recognized by the Georgia Council for the Arts (GCA) as a Georgia Touring Artist. This designation promotes performances throughout the State of Georgia and provides non-profit organizations in Georgia the option to include performance fees as an expense in grant requests from GCA.

Performances are largely songs of Americana from the 20th century and often include a touch of parody and other forms of frivolity aimed at evoking laughter from audiences. With a name like the Big Chicken Chorus, entirely serious performances are not to be expected.

We are always looking for men who love to sing to join us in song. Of special interest to us are men aged 35-55; father and son teams would be even better and men under the age of 25 pay no membership dues for their first year and only 50% of regular dues each year until they reach age 26.
