<p>Summer Art Camp 2012<br />
Join us this summer for a fun and enriching Art Camp experience! Students will broaden their horizons through exciting art projects intended to inspire creativity and learning. From painting and drawing to printmaking and sculpture, and everywhere in between, students will have the opportunity to &#8220;Create, Experience, and Explore Art!&#8221;<br />
Session 1: July 9- 13</p>
<p>Master Mash-Up<br />
Students will have an inspiring week learning about significant artists and movements throughout history. Campers will hone their painting, drawing, sculpting (and more!) skills by creating works that mash-up the styles of two master artists. From Pollock to Picasso and Sargent to Signac, we&#8217;re going to mix things up!<br />
Session 2: July 16- 20</p>
<p>Time Travel<br />
You won&#8217;t hear them say, &#8220;I&#8217;m bored!&#8221; this week! We&#8217;ll take a journey through time and discover the many exciting and inspiring movements of art from pre-history to pop art and everywhere in-between and beyond! Campers will explore painting, drawing, sculpture, and more. With Time Travel, there is never a dull moment.<br />
Session 3: July 23-27</p>
<p>The Nature of Art<br />
&#8220;Keep your love of nature, for that is the true way to understand art more and more.&#8221; Vincent van Gogh<br />
This week we will explore The Nature of Art. We&#8217;ll discover artists throughout history who depict nature in art and those who use nature as art. Students will not only use conventional means of making art, such as painting, drawing, and sculpting, but will also explore unconventional materials from nature!</p>

Only one digital image may be submitted for each 2-dimensional work. A maximum of 3 digital images may be submitted for each 3-dimensional work. No slides will be accepted. This class focuses on creating realistic paintings created through direct observation. Our curriculum goes beyond painting from the imagination, and from images, and teaches children the skill of &#8220;painting what you see&#8221; and the basics of composition and painting. This class covers the basic techniques of wheel working. Students will learn to create a variety of forms and will explore various glazing and decorating techniques. Must have prior wheel experience and have proficiency in basic wheel techniques.<br />

Create vivid landscapes in pastels using colored paper as a base. Learn techniques in blending and color theory as well as how to create a focal point in landscape composition. Demos and individual instruction will be provided in each session. Supply list will be provided at first session.   </p>

<p>Using Encaustics and Mixed Media in Art<br />
Tuesdays, January 17th &#8211; February 21st<br />

Learn how the ancient technique of encaustic painting can be mixed with collage elements to create luminous artworks. Encaustic paints include melting beeswax, damar resin, and oil pigments together to make a thick and binding medium. Learn how to set up an encaustic studio and how to manipulate and layer mediums for dynamic effects. Supply list will be given out the first day of class.</p>
<p>Adult Portrait Painting<br />
Tuesdays, March 6th- March 27th and April 10th, 17th<br />

Learn the fundamentals of painting portraits. Students will master an understanding of the structure of the human head and will learn a variety of approaches to painting a portrait. This class will reference historical and contemporary portrait artists. Students will work from a combination of live models and other references.</p>

<p>Plein Air Painting with John B. Guernsey<br />
Saturdays, April 14th &#8211; May 19th<br />

Learn the key elements of landscape painting with oils, with an emphasis on the &#8216;plein air&#8217; approach. This class is structured to create an enjoyable and fast moving environment, with effective studio instruction as well as plein air painting at local outdoor locations such as Smith-Gilbert Gardens, Brumby Gardens, and the Marietta Square. There will be numerous demonstrations, and an emphasis on one-on-one instruction. Find out how the concepts of the plein air approach will help you learn rapidly and create exciting and impressive paintings. Some topics include: supplies, composition, landscape concepts, using value to create depth, color mixing, and brush techniques.</p>
