Using Encaustics and Mixed Media in Art

Learn how the ancient technique of encaustic painting can be mixed with collage elements to create luminous artworks. Encaustic paints include melting beeswax, damar resin, and oil pigments together to make a thick and binding medium. Learn how to set up an encaustic studio and how to manipulate and layer mediums for dynamic effects. Supply list will be given out the first day of class.

Adult Portrait Painting

Learn the key elements of landscape painting with oils, with an emphasis on the ‘plein air’ approach. This class is structured to create an enjoyable and fast moving environment, with effective studio instruction as well as plein air painting at local outdoor locations such as Smith-Gilbert Gardens, Brumby Gardens, and the Marietta Square. There will be numerous demonstrations, and an emphasis on one-on-one instruction.
