Georgia Metropolitan Dance Theatre is comprised of professional and pre-professional dancers who perform to rave reviews throughout the Southeast. Producing three performances each year, GMDT provides the community with thrilling dance entertainment showcasing multiple genres.

The Georgia Metropolitan Dance Theatre has been known for dance excellence in Metro Atlanta for over fifty years. Since 1956, the Company has consistently produced some of the region’s best trained dancers. Former students have danced with The Boston Ballet, The Houston Ballet, The Louisville Ballet, Koresh Dance Company, Martha Graham, and the grand stages of Broadway.
Georgia Metropolitan Dance Theatre does three annual productions to provide the community with thrilling dance entertainment that covers multiple genres. They also expose children to professional quality dance with the Hickory Hills After School Program. Shelley S. Grames, Assistant Artistic Director, was recently a finalist in Choreography for an Ovation Award in Cobb County.
The Georgia Metropolitan Dance Theatre has had the privilege of performing in the first annual Heroes Awards presented by the Grammy’s National Academy of Recording Artists, the Atlanta Symphony’s educational video for the Metro Atlanta school system, and numerous festivals including the Inman Park Festival, Spoleto, Art in the Park, and Georgia Music Hall of Fame summer series. Most recently, the company performed in Cobb County’s 175th Anniversary Celebration at the new Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center.
Lisa Toups, the Theatre’s Artistic Director, is an award-winning choreographer with over 30 years of experience. She was recognized at the International Dance Festival in Los Angeles for her unique style of choreography. Ms. Toups is a former faculty member of the Governor’s Honor Program and Pebblebrook High School’s Program for Excellence in Performing Arts in Cobb County. She now directs the Georgia Dance Conservatory.
